An environmental impact study in collaboration with the community
Last Tuesday, Stablex invited Blainville residents to attend an information session on the relocation of the Placement Cell 6 project and to help establish a citizen advisory committee.
Pierre Légo, Health, Safety and Environment Manager, and Tania Tzakova, Environment Deputy Director, first outlined the approach undertook by Stablex to improve its project. The aim was to address the residents’ expectations and concerns and to ensure a continuous communication channel throughout the completion of the Environmental Impact Assessment.
Secondly, participants were asked to identify among themselves, members of the new citizen advisory committee. The committee will meet three times before year’s end and will pursue its activities into early 2020. All advisory committee meetings will be held simultaneously to the Environmental Impact Assessment and Review Process required by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change.
Stablex will also organize a series of thematic meetings with experts to discuss priority issues and concerns. Additionally, Stablex and the citizen advisory committee will collaborate in developing project mitigation measures and identifying measures to minimise social impacts, both to be considered for the environmental impact assessment. A report documenting the committee's work will also be prepared and, when possible, Stablex will include its project enhancements and commitments into the environmental impact assessment.
All documentation related to the committee’s meetings will be published on the Stablex website. For more information, please visit the Placement Cell 6 page and/or subscribe to the Stablex newsletter.
